Goudkoppie Heritage Hill Arts and Craft Centre and the Tourist
Information Office of the City of Matlosana was officially
opened on Thursday 29 September.
The opening coinsided with Heritage and Tourism month
celebrations in the city. Close to a thousand people celebrated
their heritage on the day by tasting a wide variety of
indigenous foods exhibited in the stalls. Local artists and
crafters displayed their creativity and the audience was
entertained by some of the most talented cultural dance groups
in the area.

Op 15 Oktober, word 30 kinders van die ouderdomme 8-16 jaar,
wat genomineer is deur NG Welsyn, deur die personeel van Anncron
Kliniek vergesel om 'n dag by The Valley of Waves by Sun City,
te gaan geniet.
Op dieselfde dag, gaan daar ook 20 kinders van die Atamelang
Skuiling, getrakteer word by Exotic Bird & Fish Paradise in
Bradylaan, met worsbroodjies, koeldrank, vrugte, lekkers, en
hope pret en plesier. Elke kind gaan ook 'n T-hemp en
kortbroekie as geskenk ontvang.

MEC YAWA
ENCOURAGED BY OPERATION MABOGO DINKU

Employees of the North West Department of Public Works, today
embarked on a Letsema volunteer campaign, dubbed "Operation
Mabogo Dinku" by engaging in garden maintenance and landscaping
in the Lowe Parliamentary Village in Mmabatho.
The campaign is part of on-going maintenance and upgrading of
gardens and surroundings in the Parliamentary Village. In recent
weeks, the department has renovated most of the 17 houses, and
upgraded security and recreational facilities in the
Parliamentary village.

The Launch of Matlosana |

The Klerksdorp municipality recently changed its name to
Matlosana, and this came about, because of the historical
background of the place. A librarian and a museum officer
were recruited to help find the meaning of the name, as at that
point, there was nothing much written about it.

LAC treats Hospice patients

A well-prepared, nutritious lunch and a couple of hours spent in
a tranquil atmosphere. This is the special treat that the Vaal
River Local Area Committee (LAC) of the AngloGold Ashanti Fund,
recently gave to patients who are supported by Hospice
Northwest. Some 60 patients from Stilfontein, Kanana, Jouberton,
Alabama and Klerksdorp, were given a break from their normal
routine, with a relaxing outing at the RG Williams Game Lodge on
Friday, 15 September.

UNIQUE
HERITAGE CELEBRATIONS BY PUBLIC WORKS |

It was a day to look, taste and feel unique but proudly South
African when employees of the North West Department of Public
Works in the Southern Region celebrated cultural heritage and
diversity under the theme "Indigenous foods, our knowledge, our
heritage" on Friday 23 September in Potchefstroom.
Cultural diversity was celebrated in style. Colourful
traditional attires and indigenous food fair exhibitions of the
Botswana, the Afrikaner, the Dutch, the Scottish and the French
depicted South Africa's rich traditions and heritage. The
Indigenous dishes left many a gourmet asking for more.
Afrikaners in typical Voortrekker attire would have made Andries
Hendrik Potgieter proud of Public Works employees.

NORTH WEST CRICKET

The “Vhashumi” Two Provinces Gold Challenge, took place on
Saturday, 17 September, and was supported by cyclists from all
over South Africa. The race consisted of 3 distances, namely
140, 50 and 15kms. The 140km race was an official seeding race
for Argus 2006.
About 70 riders took
part in the gruelling 140km race, which was won by Darryl Impey.
Eckard Berg was in second position, while Shaun Botha came in at
third position. Klerksdorp's own JC Jooste, who rides for the
Kia team, surprised everyone by coming in at fourth position.

HARMONY HEARTBEAT LAUNCH |

Harmony is a company who promotes Healthy living and a Healthy
lifestyle amongst their employees.
The Harmony Heartbeat Launch was held on Saturday, 01 October
2005 at the Oppenheimer stadium. This event was held to
emphasize healthy living and lifestyle not only amongst their
employees but also the community. The Municipality of Matlosane
and the Southern district were also present. The events on the
program (Fun Run, Weight lifting, Soccer, Gumboot mile) were
good examples of healthy living. This event ended with good
spirit and was closed by South African artists like Kabelo.
