Fotogenies, informeel – Goue medalje,

Formeel – Goue medalje en Swemdrag – silwer medalje. Christelle se borrellende vertoning was deurslaggewend.

Dieselfde kategorie as voormalige Mej.

Spies lewer baie suksesvolle seminaar

Hospice week is a huge success

Hospice Week was celebrated across the country from the first till the eighth of May. The program for the week kicked-off with their annual Fete that was held at the Hospice House, followed with a ballet performance by the Ballet Theater Afrikan on Wednesday the fifth of May. But the highlight surely must have been the “Walking in Grandmother’s shoes”. That was the theme for their fun walk on Saturday at Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket. “The purpose was to recognize the role ‘grannies’ play in ‘bringing up’ their grandchildren whose parents have passed away” says Joan from the Hospice team. Pick ‘n Pay sponsored a computer for the school who had the most entrants. Alabama Primary School was overwhelmed to receive their new computer.

Need an energy boost?

Do you plod through the day at the office? Are you so tired by the afternoon that exercise is the last thing on your mind? Do you flop into bed at night and roll out of it exhausted in the morning? Your problem might simply be that you have low energy levels, and if so, there are quick and easy natural remedies to give you the boost you need.

Low-energy days are one part genetics, two parts diet and three parts stress. Stress is clearly the main culprit. If, for example, you are stuck in a traffic jam on your way to work and you let negative thoughts and road rage raise your stress level, your body will release enough adrenalin and insulin to keep you running flat out for over a kilometre.

If this energy is left unused, the adrenalin will continue coursing through your veins, diverting energy away from vital bodily functions. This will leave you feeling tired and even slightly depressed for the rest of the day. Instant energy boosters

  • Start the day off with a steaming cup of water and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. This will not only refresh and revitalise you, but will cleanse your palate and will boost your liver function.

  • Feast on this energy-packed smoothie for breakfast: blend one banana, one mango, half a medium sized pineapple, a tablespoon of rolled oats and 150ml milk or a small cup of plain, low-fat yoghurt.

  • Keep a spray bottle of water or a rehydrating freshener on your desk at work. Use it to freshen you up during the long day.

  • Burn peppermint or eucalyptus essential oil in an oil burner or spill a few drops onto a tissue and inhale deeply. This will stimulate the trigeminal nerve in your nose and palate, which will in turn boost your energy levels.

Feeling sluggish? Try this quick acupressure technique on yourself: pinch the point between your thumb and forefinger and hold for two minutes then gradually release

Boost Your Immune System

 hello

Friendly greetings to all our health-minded readers. This time we take a look at what we can do to better fend off all the nasty bugs many of us are prone to fall victim to at this time of the year.

Eating habits play a major role in establishing and maintaining a healthy immune system. Eat lots of fresh, raw plant-based dishes. As a rule of thumb fruits cleanse the body and veggies build up the body. It’s important to include as mush variety as possible. This gives us the added benefit of taking in as much as possible of the protective phytonutrients. Remember lots of different colours of plant foods give us life-giving enzymes, carotenoids and bio-available vitamins and minerals. Dark green veggies are essential for protecting against a host of disease.

Avoid eating too much processed, refined foods and cooked foods where at all possible. As an example, a can of commonly consumed fixxy, sugared soft drink contains enough sugar to shut an adult immune system down for as long as eight hours. That’s a third of the day, so avoid cane sugar, white flour, fast foods, fried foods, etc.

Keep your body’s ph correct by eating alkaline-forming foods.  A body in an acid-crisis is more susceptible to disease.  Eat as mentioned above and add in extra avocados, millet, almonds and big, raw salads to help curb acidity naturally.  Supplemental Base Powder or Calcium and Magnesium are also beneficial and help keep acidity at bay.

Pro-biotics, also known as friendly flora or friendly bacteria, stimulate the immune system and protect the body against harmful bacteria and yeasts like Candida albicans.  Choose a pro-biotic containing Lactobacillus Acidophilus and Bifida Longum.

Essential fatty acids are also very important at maintaining a healthy immune system.  Supplemental flax seed oil containing omega 3, 6 and 9 is a good source.

Antioxidants like pycnogenol (pine bark extract), grape seed extract, propolis, Cili Bao fruit crystals, selenium, Vitamin A, C, E and Zinc are all great to supplement with as they are powerful free radical scavengers and immune enhancers.

Marvelous as it is, the immune system can work as it should only if it is cared for properly.  This means getting all the right nutrients and providing the right environment plus avoiding those things that tend to depress immunity.  Environmental factors that compromise our immune system’s defense abilities include the following:

  • Chemicals in household cleaners.

  • Overuse of antibiotics and other drugs.

  • Antibiotics, pesticides and myriad of additives in our food.

  • Environmental pollutants.

It’s been great to share with you again and we trust this information will help us all as we continue on life’s journey in the healthiest way possible.  Yours for “Quality Health the Fun Way”.

4x4 fees ‘n reuse sukses

Hierdie video’s sal binnekort beskikbaar wees. Vir navrae kontak Tinus Botha by 082 476 7630.

Tea for two…or three or more…

  hello

Host a Cuppa for CANSA event and drink to the benefits of nature’s beverage.

Drinking tea may be healthier than you think. Research in the USA points to tea being a healthier beverage than previously thought, making it the perfect partner for CANSA’s annual “Cauppa for CANSA” campaign, which raises funds and crates awareness of healthy living.

“Studies show that tea contains plant polyphenols  that are similar and in some cases identical to fruits and vegetables that we know are health promoting” says Joel Perry, Health Programmes Director for CANSA.

Perry adds that scientists are just beginning to understand antioxidants and other nutrients present not only in green and black tea but also in Rooibos tea.

Results of research  conducted by various bodies around the world have revealed how antioxidants neutralize harmful oxygen molecules (free radicals) responsible for damaging cells and causing tumors and heart disease.

At the Second International Scientific Symposium on Tea and Human health, Prof Jushi Ghen from the Chinses Academy of Preventive Medicine, reported that green and black tea had strongly positive anti-cancer effect when administered over six months to patients with pre-cancerous  mouth lesions.

Similarly tests done at the Indiana University School of Medicine found definite positive antioxidant activity in lung cancer patients who consumed green and black tea, while yet another study established that consumption of green and black tea could even retard the development of lung cancer in organisms exposed to tobacco carcinogens.

Here in South Africa, the Medical Research Council of South Africa is researching the effects of South Africa’s indigenous Rooibos an Honeybush teas in relation to decreasing the cancer-causing effects of environmental carcinogens.

So, now with tea looking to be more friend than foe, what better way to celebrate than to register and host a tea party for CANSA’s “Cuppa for CANSA”

This year popular annual event is being co-sponsored by Dilmah Tea and Shoprite Checkers with all proceeds going toward CANSA’s new smart way of thinking: that prevention is better than cure and that healthy living can help prevent cancer.

As a registered host. CANSA will provide you with posters, leaflet, and collection envelope and guest registration from. By inviting your guest and asking those to make a small donation for their favorite beverage you will be making a meaningful contribution to CANSA and its invaluable work in promoting health in South Africa.

Cuppa for CANSA sponsor Dilmah Tea is giving away an exquisite Noritake Tea Set worth R3 000! To win this wonderful prize all you have to doe is to register to host your own ‘Cuppa’ get-together and sign up as many other Cuppa for CANSA host as possible. The host who successfully recruits the most additional hosts will win the Noritake Tea Set!

The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion comes alive like never before with incredible visual and special effects in this all-new, fun- filled comedy adventure. Shrouded in fog and mystery, the mansion was once a stately antebellum palace that hosted New Orleans’ wealthiest. Now it’s the creepy and crumbling home to a love struck 19th century gentleman, 999 ghosts, and a hilarious and hair-raising battle for “home rule.” Realtor Jim Evers and his wife and business partner Sara get a call late one night from mansion owner Edward Gracey, who is looking to sell his property. Smelling the biggest deal of their career, Jim, Sara and their two children pay a visit to the mansion, located on a remote bayou. A torrential thunderstorm of mysterious origin strands the Evers family in the old mansion with the brooding, eccentric Gracey, his mysterious butler Ramsley, and a variety of residents both seen and unseen. At first, Jim scoffs at Gracey’s stories about ghosts and hauntings, until he unearths the mystery of the mansion and finds that his wife Sara has unexpected connections to its haunted past.

hello

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

What else could you have done? You keep turning the experience over in your mind.

You are rethinking your actions and responses, which leads to questioning and doubting yourself. Instead of making yourself crazy, why not ask and honestly answer this one simple question, “What else could I have done?” Then take it one step further by asking, “If you could have done it, why didn’t you do it?” Could you have been more considerate? Compassionate? Understanding? Probably. Could you have been more patient? More tolerant? More cautious? Well, what do you think? Could have said more or less? Could have listened a bit closer? Could have planned better? Waited longer?

Of course you could have, but you didn’t. When you feel sufficiently remorseful, overwhelming confused and totally beaten down, you WILL be on the brink of a divine revelation! You will be face to face with something you have never considered. Something too simple! Too easy! The truth is, if you could have done it, you would have!

The fact that you didn’t means you couldn’t for reasons you may or may not be aware right now. Second-guessing yesterday will not help you today. Holding yourself hostage to what was not, will not propel you into what will be. As you accept the reality of what you did not do in the past, you open yourself to the luxury of knowing it does not mean you will not do better in the future. Until today you may have held yourself hostage with remorse over what you could have done.

In fact you may be pushing yourself to a point of remorseful no return. Just for today, realize you did all you could have done. Take note of what you saw, heard, felt and experienced. Use those notes as preparation to do better at some later date.

6 Series to become the new cult car

he

The last time we saw a BMW 6 Series was in the late 80s and that car became a motoring icon. Now, almost two decades later, the all-new 6 Series - in coupé and cabriolet guise - is set to become a new cult car. Engineering Under the bonnet of the 645 Ci is a responsive 4.4-litre eight-cylinder. Equipped with the innovative Valvetronic valve control system this unit produces 245 kW at 6 100 r/min and torque is a useful 450 Nm at 3 600 r/min. Of course it is a fast mover and it goes from 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds (6.2 seconds for the automatic) and top speed is limited to 250km/h. There are three six-speed transmission choices: a Steptronic automatic, a sequential- manual gearbox, and a manual. The car has an aluminum chassis which helps to obtain excellent road holding while BMW’s active suspension setup, Dynamic Drive, helps to minimize body roll. Standard on the 6 Series is the Active Steering system providing optimal level of assistance depending on vehicle speed. Thanks to this system the 6 Series, which is almost five meters long and about two meters wide, is quite a maneuverable set of wheels. The car is packed with a mouthful of standard driving and safety acronyms such as ABS, ASC, DBC, EBD, DSC and CBC Interior The 645Ci convertible is a 2+2 seater. It is finished of in the softest leather and wood trim. Electrical adjustment of the driver’s and front passenger’s seats is standard, with a triple memory function on the driver’s seat. As with the 5 and 7 the controversial iDrive system is also standard. From the third quarter voice entry system will be available, enhancing the BMW’s iDrive control philosophy. This system is available in conjunction with the Professional navigation system and the Car Communication Computer (CCC) - both standard on SA-spec 6 Series convertibles. The key feature of voice entry is the option to select all essential iDrive comfort functions by voice entry while driving, without taking one’s eyes off the road even for a split-second. Driving it The 6 Series is light of foot and it feels really alive. Furthermore the car has an almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution and with all the safety features on hand this BMW offers great handling ability. Despite its cruiser image the 6 Series convertible is a driver’s car first and foremost. It offers one of the best rides in the business and gets the adrenaline pumping like few other cars. .

Corolla Verso

To ensure that the Corolla Verso caters to your every whim on the road, it comes with a 1.8 liter VVT-i engine capable of producing 95kW of power and 170Nm of torque. Optional on the SX and standard on TX models is Toyota’s MMT (Multi-mode Manual Transmission).

This gives you the option of shifting gears without clutch, or depending on your mood, letting the Corolla Verso shift gears automatically, saving you the effort and, believe it or not, the fuel. With up to 7 airbags, 3-point safety belts for all 7 passengers, vehicle stability control (depending on model) and ABS, the Corolla Verso takes Toyota’s renewed safety to a higher level. Apart from the Toyota badge, the other feature you’ll find familiar in the Verso is the standard 5-year/90 000km Toyota Care Service Plan. Versatility. The word itself can be interpreted and used in a lot of different ways, a bit like the new Toyota Corolla Verso. No measure has been spared in making this car that suits your lifestyle, whatever it may be.

So how does your lifestyle fit into the Verso? Well, start at the spacious and flexible 7 seat configuration that allows ample space for 5 adults and two children. In addition, each of the 5 seats in the 2nd and 3rd row can easily be folded down without having to remove the head straints, to create a completely fl at load area to accommodate cargo. Breaking with MPV convention with its sporty exterior styling, the Verso goes a step further with its elegant interior. Step inside and you’ll immediately be greeted by the optitron instrumentation with milky green illumination, a standard 6-speaker audio system with steering wheel controls, and depending on the model, a leather covered 3-spoke steering wheel plus an in-dash 6-CD changer, automatic climate control & park assist. So whatever your taste, you’ll find the Verso interior quite tasteful.

Grand Prix de Monaco

Monte Carlo, Monaco

The glamour venue on the Formula One calendar, the Monaco Grand Prix is an occasion for the rich and famous to strut their stuff. Totally unsuitable for the modern Formula One car – Nelson Piquet described driving there as being “ like riding a bicycle around your living room” – the classic street circuit, first used in 1929, keeps it place on the calendar by virtue of its star quality and historical significance. Overtaking is highly impossible unless the driver of the car ahead makes a mistake. But mistakes can change the course of the race, and often do. Monaco is a supreme test driving skill, rewarding those who thread their way through the unending walls of Armco with consistency and accuracy as well as speed. This was demonstrated yet again by last year’s winner Juan Pablo Montoya. Normally the “wild man” of Formula One, the Columbian showed that, when needed, he also has the skill and restraint for this mother of all street circuits, coolly holding off the challenging Kimi Räikkönen, who set up a new race lap record of 161,298 km/h (the first ever race lap of over 100 mph) during this chase.

Race Distance: 78 Laps, 262,860 km

Start: 14:00 South African time

2003 Winner: Juan Pablo Montoya (Williams-BMW) in a time of 1 hr 42 min 19,010 sec.

2003 Pole: Ralf Schumacher (Williams-BMW) in a time of 1 min 15,259.

Askarri vermorsel Lichtenburg-spanne

Die o.20-span was egter nie so gelukkig in sy wedstryd teen Westonaria nie.

Ondersteuners word verwelkom by hierdie wedstryd.

Make your slumber zone a pleasure zone

After the eight-hour day, dropping and fetching the kids, shopping, exercising and cooking, you deserve to retire into a beautiful bedroom. Your bedroom should be a haven of relaxation and rest, a place where body and mind are rejuvenated and prepared for the next hectic day. Here are some ways to make your slumber zone, a pleasure zone:

* Piles of pillows: Cover your bed with soft, sumptuous cushions and pillows. (You can even make your own scented pillows by stuffing them with sleep-inducing lavender and geranium).

* Light up your life: Get rid of harsh, overhead lighting and install soft, gentle lights and bedside lamps.

* Light a candle: Position scented aromatherapy candles all around the room – lavender and chamomile induce relaxation and sleep, while ylang ylang and sandalwood will promote romance.

* Flower power: Fill window boxes with herbs like lavender and chamomile that will give off their beautiful relaxing scents on hot summer nights. Position vases with freshly cut, sweet-scented roses, lilies or sweet peas. Herb posies will not only add to the bouquet of scents, but will also keep insects at bay.

* Burn, baby, burn: If you’re allergic to pollen, aromatherapy burners can disperse the sensual scents of ylang ylang, sandalwood, geranium and lavender essential oils. Alternatively, you can scent a tissue with a few drops of lavender oil and put it under your pillow. Avoid lavender if you’re pregnant and bear in mind that too much ylang ylang can cause headaches and nausea.

* Bring balance to your bedroom: You want maximum sun in the morning, but minimum light at night, so it’s important to balance light and shade.

* If you have the money, change your curtains with the seasons: go for thick, comforting velvets or denim in winter and crisp, float voile and muslin in summer.
