 Editors Note

No I’m not getting into it, there is no way I’m saying anything about you know what.

Hope everyone had a lovely Valentine’s day and weekend, hope you were spoiled, pampered and loved by those you love. We had a bit of excitement ourselves, one of the staff members here at Yourcity decided to get engaged on the day of love.  Congratulations Juanita, may you and Norman have a happy life together.

On a more serious note, most of us have our financial year end this month, to all of you good luck over the next two weeks, and the next two weeks after that. I really hope all the hard work that lies ahead is worth it.

Enjoy the rest of the week and that *+$#@! sport that I refuse to mention by name.

Regards

Ed

CCTV cameras in CBD, What’s your opinion ?

I’m sure all of you have read about the local councils plans to implement a CCTV system in the CBD, in order to curb the rising crime levels in this area. The budget for this project is R 3 million. Some citizens feel that this will only chase crime away from the CBD and into the residential areas. That it’s not the solution and that other ways of reducing crime, like job creation and social up-lift-mint should rather be entertained.

What is your opinion on this? Let us know what your opinion is, we would like to know, we might even publish your views on this newsletter, or we might even forward all the opinions raised to council.

Your privacy is guaranteed.

CCTV System the public’s opinion !!

Last week we asked for your opinion on the planned installation of a CCTV system in Klerksdorp, this debate is surely something that can be entertained to end of time, the following two letters gives an idea of the split that exists in the community about this problem. Lets just hope, that the right decision has been taken by Council.

Letters Received

It is a proven and established fact that cameras are a significant crime deterrent, as well providing quality evidence for our Police Force.

The social upliftment and job creation programs are ongoing but take time to implement. Criminals, in the mean time, will continue to steal and thereby complicate these exact efforts for existing companies that currently provide employment for the hard-working and innocent 'Klerksdorpians'.

This is a topic that should not be debated as more time will be wasted. I am of the opinion that the only decision makers regarding CCTV are our Police Force. If they want cameras, and I am sure they will, then install the cameras ASAP.  Get on with it please.

Last Chance on Drivers License Deadline...

City Council Officials Offer Voluntary Overtime

Staff members of The Licensing Division of The City Council of Klerksdorp have volunteered to work overtime to accommodate residents who have not yet updated their diver's license.

These public servants are coming in to work on Saturday mornings form 8:00 until 12:00.  The deadline for the replacement of old driver's licenses to the new one is no later than 28 February 2003.  This will be the last time citizens will be afforded the opportunity to replace their driver's license.

Mr. & Miss H.T.S

What happens when "big business" all come to the party and co-sponsor a competition with a difference? Come and see for yourself - the new and exciting Mr. and Miss Technical High School Klerksdorp on Wednesday 26 February 2003 in the Auditorium at 19h00. Here not only will you see the contestants "strut their stuff" but SPINDRIFT our local rock band who are currently touring the Jo'burg / Pretoria club scene and will be releasing their first CD in March, will keep the crowd entertained!

This is the first of a number of planned Mr.& Miss "High School" competitions coordinated by Pixie Productions. These competitions will not only raise funds for each of the schools involved - as just about every aspect of the competition is sponsored - but to also get each school involved in the community . The vision is that after all the winners from the different schools have been established an overall Mr. & Miss "High School" will be held - and this competition will be sponsored by a major corporate and all the funds raised from the final will be donated to a local appropriate charity!

This Weeks Movie Review:

Red Dragon

To understand the origin of evil
You must go back to the beginning…

Seven years before writing The Silence of the Lambs, author Thomas Harris created a portrait of evil in its purest form. With the suspense novel Red Dragon, he introduced readers to a trio of characters whose fates were devastatingly intertwined: the brilliant psychiatrist-turned-killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter; the psychically scarred FBI investigator, Will Graham; and the ritualistic butcher known as The Tooth Fairy.

The mythology of the Lecter character, one of the most intriguing villains in modern fiction, was continued in Harris' subsequent best-sellers, The Silence of the Lambs (1988) and Hannibal (1999). In Jonathan Demme's Oscar-winning 1991 film adaptation of Silence, Anthony Hopkins elevated Lecter to the ranks of indelible cinematic figures, winning an Academy Award for his chilling portrayal and creating one of those rare instances in film when role and actor are so perfectly matched that it's virtually impossible to imagine another actor playing the character - or to think of Hopkins and not immediately conjure images of Lecter.

As a result, when the opportunity arose to reprise the role in Ridley Scott's 2001 big screen version of Hannibal, Hopkins revisited the role, resulting in one of the most successful films of the year.

Red Dragon represents the completion of the Hopkins-Hannibal trilogy.
