Klerksdorp Volkswagen & Audi now next to N12

Seeff As long as what most people can remember, Klerksdorp has had a VW and an Audi dealer. Somewhere in the files, the guys at Volkswagen Klerksdorp will be able to find you an invoice for a Beetle sold by Colt Motors way back in 1952.(They were the agents for Volkswagen back then).

A lot has changed since 1952,and now the most significant change in the company ’s history so far has taken place. Klerksdorp Audi and Klerksdorp Volkswagen has spent a combined figure of well over R10 million, and they have erected a building that can be described as a small motor city of it ’s own, right next to the N12 highway in Klerksdorp. State of the art design combines with elegance and style to provide the consumer with more than just buying a car. The building is state of the art, and customer convenience is at a pinnacle. Buying cars these days is getting harder and harder, there are so many different makes and models, with different features extras and offers to choose from. In the end buying a car from a dealer that you know you can rely on, must be the answer. Both Klerksdorp Volkswagen and Klerksdorp Audi have proven over the years that they can deliver. believe I speak for everyone in Klerksdorp, when I say: May Klerksdorp Audi and Klerksdorp Volkswagen go from strength to strength and may your business be an example to us all, of what can be done if one sets your mind to it.

Message from the manager of public safety:

Road traffic accidents on the South African roads and street network, rate amongst the highest in the world. In the order of 10 000 people lose their lives annually while about 40 000 are seriously injured and 110 000 slightly injured in 500 000 accidents. These accidents cost the country in the order of R13,0 billion per annum. Most of these accidents are attributed to road traffic offences that relate to vehicle and driver fitness issues and reckless, negligent and inconsiderate driver behavior.

The Arrive Alive road safety campaign was introduced in order to combat traffic offences and reduce road accidents and, in particular accident leading to fatalities and serious injuries. Some of the contributory factors to these accidents are:

• Speed

• Overtaking on barrier lines

• Drinking and driving

• Un-roadworthy vehicles

• Driver fatigue ant fitness

• Road rage

• Reckless and negligent driving etc.

It is our wish that as motorists and other road users take the road to different holiday destinations, safety be the order of the day and the yardstick with which we will measure our performance on the arrive alive campaign. We want to appeal to all our road users

to drive with the utmost caution and to be considerate at all times. It is important to make the responsibility of safety on our roads, our responsibility as a collective and not the responsibility of a chosen few.

We want to thank all the sponsors who deemed it proper to join hands with the public safety department and all other emergency and law enforcement agencies to help spread the message of safe and responsible road usage. We believe that through their efforts and involvement many lives may be saved. Let us join hands together to ensure

that there is a notable decrease in road accidents.

We wish all our users and the entire KOSH community a safe and pleasant festive season and prosperity in the new year. “ARRIVE ALIVE ”.

Mr Ignatius Boikanyo

RATE CUT EXPECTED TO FUEL FESTIVE CHEER

The current economic picture of low Inflation and low economic growth strongly supports expectations of further interest rate cuts totalling at least two percentage points by the end of the financial year in February.

The first of these cuts is expected in the second week of December, and will add to the festive cheer for homeowners and home seekers who have already benefited from a five percentage point decline in rates since July. A minimum of one percentage point cut in the repo rate is expected, and if the banks follow suit as usual, this would take the homeloan “base ”rate to 11 percent and lower the minimum monthly repayment to R1032 per R100 000 borrowed.

It would also fuel housing demand, by lowering the household income qualification levels for homeloans. At 11 percent interest, the monthly household income required to qualify for a 20-year R300 000 loan would be R10 320 –significantly less than the current R11 010 and all the more attainable for home seekers expecting a pay increase in January. The latest statistics show that CPIX inflation measured 4,4 percent year-on-year in October –the second consecutive month that the measure has fallen within the 3 to 6 percent target range. Between September and October, CPIX remained unchanged, with a 22c fall in the petrol price more than compensating for a 0.2%rise in the food price index.

The increase in headline CPI slowed down to 1.5 percent (y-o-y) and declined by 0.7 percent %(m-o-m) as the September interest rate cut filtered through to consumer prices. Meanwhile, the latest GDP (gross domestic product) figures also support a further rate cut. Third quarter real GDP rose from a revised quarter-on-quarter annualized rate of 0,5 percent in the second quarter to 1,1 percent in the third quarter –largely on the back of declining interest rates since July. It is believed that this signals the beginning of an upward trend in real GDP growth that is likely to last into 2005 –but will need a helping hand from the Reserve Bank to reach the desired rate of 3 percent or more in the face of a strong Rand and a slow recovery in the global economy. At present, says ABSA, SA ’s biggest mortgage lender, a 1 percentage point interest rate cut is expected in December and a further cut of the same magnitude is expected in February. “If currency strength persists, however, and economic growth fails to accelerate from current levels, the February cut may not necessarily prove to be the bottom of the current interest rate cycle. “What is more, money market instruments have also already started to discount the possibility of a greater than 100 basis point cut in December.”

Tiger Wheel &Tyre opens its ’ Doors..

Over the years the community of Klerksdorp has become used to great service and reliable products from the Speedy group of Companies. It is clear that with opening Tiger Wheel & Tyre in Klerksdorp they have the same ideals in mind.

From the location of the business to the wide range of tyres and mag rims supplied, to the finish of the building and attention to detail, nothing has been left out, in order to ensure that your tyre fitting experience is a pleasant one. Good news for consumers is that Tiger Wheel & Tyre are now also able to fill your vehicle ’s tyres with Nitrogen. What this basically means is that your tyres are kept cooler at high speeds, thus extending the live expectance of your tyres. With the high cost of tyres today, this is surely a welcome service.

The opening of a branch of one of South Africa ’s major Tyre fitment companies in Klerksdorp is a testament to the ability of Klerksdorp to supply major companies with the economic stability that is needed to attract big investment. Congratulations to the Speedy group, may this venture be as successful as what all your other ventures in our city has been.

Fausto's Jokes

Our Joker of the week is: Ronel Engelbreght. She sent us this recipe for a Christmas cake, and yes, she has won herself our weekly dinner at Fausto ’s. CHRISTMAS CAKE Ingredients:1 cup of water;1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of brown sugar,4 large eggs,1 bottle Vodka ;1 tsp baking soda;1 tsp salt ;lemon juice;nuts;1 cup of dried fruit. Sample the vodka to check quality. Take a large bowl ,check the vodka again. To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar .Beat again .At this point it ’s best to make sure the vodka is still OK. Try another cup ...just in case. Turn of the mixer. Break 2 legs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick fruit off floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the vodka to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Who gives a hoot. Check the vodka. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of suger, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don ’t forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the vodka and kick the cat.

CHERRY MISTMAS!!

Pullman ideal for holiday !

Peugeot SA has added the 807 MPV Pullman to it ’s range.

The Pullman is priced at R345 900 for which, Peugeot says, you ’ll get a living room on wheels ”with two power-operated sliding doors and seating for up to seven people. Both models have front-wheel drive with power coming from a 113kW /213Nm 2.2-litre petrol engine through a five-speed manual gearbox. Top speed is listed as 196km/h –pretty darn fast for a family MPV –though Peugeot claims 12.9 liters/100km around town and 7.8 liters/100km on the open road. Overall, you should expect around 9.7 liters/100km.

The hydraulic steering assistance –a bit dated as other makers gradually introduce petrol-saving electric power –self-adjusts depending on the vehicle ’s speed …as do the shock-absorbers according to load. The anti-lock brakes use ventilated front and solid rear discs with emergency pressure assistance on call for when you need it most. An electronic stability system is included in the package. Depending on model, the 807 has a driving seat with multiple adjustments, swiveling club seats with individually adjustable armrests and aircraft-style trays and individual rear seats with adjustable backrests. Peugeot ’s patented “Quickfix ” system means the seats can easily be relocated or removed altogether though no matter where you sit you ’ll find your own air-conditioning.

Storage bins are spread throughout the cabin: some are dedicated, cooled or concealed while others have specific capacities and can be moved. Somewhere you ’ll find something in which to store eyewear, loose luggage (under a net), CDs, mobile phones, loose change, garage tickets, drink cans, water bottles, handbags and even laptop computers.

Again depending on model, there are seven individual three-point seat belts and six crash bags –two of which are of the curtain variety to cover all three rows of seats. All six passenger seats can accommodate a kiddy seat while it is possible to install one or two IsoFix child seats in the window seats, without using the seatbelt. The power doors, rear power windows and the electric sunroofs can be disabled to avoid busy baby fingers and a retractable panoramic surveillance mirror mounted on a ball joint allows mom and dad to watch what ’s going on in the rear. The headlights and windscreen wipers can be set to automatic, the hazard lights will start flashing under heavy braking and the “friendly ”headlights will remain on until you are safely in your home. Like all other Peugeot petrol engines, the 807 requires a service only every 30 000km and a free warranty check every 15 000km. The price include a three-year or 100 000km warranty and a five-year or 60 000km maintenance plan (with extension options).

The roof of Africa race is renowned not only as the toughest race on the continent, but also as a race that sorts the boys from the men.

Two Klerksdorp quad bike riders that can surely now be counted with the men is Hein du Toit and Ian Palmer. Both were novice entries in this years Roof of Africa and both did themselves proud. Hein came second in his class on his 300cc 2 stroke and Ian came third in his class on his 660cc 4 stroke Raptor. The team from Klerksdorp would originally have consisted out of four members, but Braam Botes and Peter Walters both got injured during practice a few weeks before the race, but however Peter says: ”There is always next year ”
