Sesikhona
is the company that should soon be responsible “ for the
supply, delivery, installation, commissioning, operation and
maintenance of an integrated service delivery and revenue
management system through remote metering for electricity and
water.”
The
Klerksdorp City Council decided at its monthly meeting on
Monday 23 February 2004 to ratify and sign within seven days
the agreement with Sesikhona Systems (Pty) Ltd. The tender was
awarded last year in May with the condition that “due
diligence” must be followed and that the project must be
“at no cost to Council”
The
total project amounts to a capital outlay of R250 million and
this cost will be carried by Sesikhona.
What
it comes down to is that all households will be fitted with a
prepaid meter that only allows the user to use water or
electricity once he or she has paid. With the current
situation where City Council is experiencing problems with the
collection of money outstanding, this can only bring welcome
relief to the community and Council.
What
effect this development will have on consumers is still not
clear, at the time of going to print YourNews did not have a
official answer on this matter. It can however be assumed that
water and electricity should at least not become more
expensive as the deal is at “ no cost” to Council.

The secret of success is that the secret is not
a secret. It’s all been written down in books of all the
successful people of the world, but that’s not the type of
books people buy.
What did successful people all do? At one point
in their lives they woke up and said: This is where I am today
but this is not where I want to end up! They looked into the
future and decided that, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 years from today
I want to be there. What I am doing right now, every day, is
it ever going to get me there? If not. I must start looking
for a vehicle to get me from where I am, to where I want to
end up.
WHY IT WORKS?
95% of the people wake up every day and goes to
work without implementing the secret of success. When they
wake up they don’t know which direction to take. At one
spot, there are 360 different directions you can take off to.
Every day they start from the same spot and run in a different
direction. Because they don’t have a particular destination,
they will do it for they’re whole live and wake up one day
and say: “What happened ?”. After 30 to 40 or even 50
years of work they will end up with 50-70% less income than
they started with. They
never implemented the secret of success.
People that are successful wake up every
morning with a focus in their mind, on a point in the future
that they want to get to. They don’t have 48 hours a day.
They are not 10 feet tall and bullet proof. They are just
average people like you and me who wake up one day with one
focused direction to a point in the future.
Because of that – When they do something that
day, they progress in that direction and they don’t have to
start over the next morning. And they take baby steps – one
at a time. They are willing to take baby steps for many, many
years. Willing to do that because they love what they are
doing.
If you are not doing something you love –
Find something that you love to do for free. Don’t put money
out there. Money will only give you choices. Money has nothing
to do with success. The most successful person that I know of
was Mother Teresa. Find something you love that has a positive
effect on the people around you. What if you can find
something that you love, have a positive effect on the people
around you and make enough money from it? = BONUS
GOOD NEWS!
What formula will work for you?
As long as you put something out there that you
want, not what others want for you. Something that you can
became passionate about, that makes you feel like a four year
old on Christmas eve, an emotional thing – like freedom or
spending more time with your family. Something that you want
so badly that you are willing to roll up your sleeves and work
towards it, no matter how big or small. It will give you more
energy than you ever had in your life.
People are not tired they are uninspired.
Don’t stop and let sleep get in the way.
You will only implement the secret of success
if you are looking. Looking
for something out there that you can get excited about.
Something that stirs your soul.

“At the start of the seminar we announce that
the practice walk is compulsory but the real Firewalk is
volitional, entirely their choice. Although, often, the
majority of the people at the start of the seminar are afraid
and say they will not do the Firewalk, after the practice
walk, virtually 100 percent end up doing the full walk. This
is where the major team transformation takes place. When one
person walks, the next follows and in turn the next and the
next. Based on the pre-supposition “If it’s possible in
the world, it’s possible for me”, delegates become
empowered by their paradigm shift – if he or she can do it I
can do it. Because the fear reduces everyone to the same
level, they grow together as the seminar progresses. Truck

actual Firewalk. Divided into teams delegates go outside for
the real thing. First everyone does the coal walk i.e. red-hot
coals fifteen feet long, ending in a puddle of water.
Delegates arrange themselves in sequence; those that feel a
little apprehensive follow further down the line.
After the coal walk the full flame walk
follows. This full flame walk was developed by the Firewalk
Foundation and is their unique property. Photographs are taken
from both sides as the flames envelop delegates. These are
without a doubt the most dramatic pictures in the world.”

vermaak met ‘n poppekas vertonings in die tuin terwyl die
verwagtende vroue die kans gegun is om aan “Mrs Unique

meemaak en Lorraine van Antwerpen was die gelukkige wenner van
‘n naweek vir twee by Kwa-Maritana.

Last time we wrote on the importance of eating
well and having to make big changes to achieve above-average
health. If we
want to function well in the fast pace of living we find
ourselves in average health is often inadequate. We dedicate
this column to the subject of water, how it affects our health
and some useful info’ to help those who are unsure about how
to achieve safe drinking water.
Humans can survive for about five weeks without
food but without water life would end in three to five days.
The average person’s body is composed of approximately 70
percent water although this varies from person to person and
from one body part to another. The body’s water supply is
responsible for and involved in nearly every bodily process,
including digestion, absorption, circulation, excretion,
transport of nutrients and for all building functions of the
body. Water regulates temperature and is essential for
carrying wastes from the body. It’s important to replace the
water that’s continually being lost through sweating and
elimination.
A drop in the body’s water content causes a
decline in blood volume, triggering the hypothalamus, the
brain’s thirst center, to send out the demand for a drink.
Many of us only drink enough to quench a dry,
parched throat and not enough to replace the water lost -
leading to dehydration and the resultant flat, tired feeling
that accompanies dehydration.
As we age the sense of thirst becomes dulled
and we have lower reserves of body water than we had when we
were younger. This is why it’s important to drink water even
when you’re not thirsty. Inadequate water consumption may
contribute to excess body fat, poor muscle tone, digestive
problems, poor functioning of many organs, including the
brain, joint and muscle soreness and, paradoxically, water
retention.
Consuming plenty of quality water can slow the
aging process, and can prevent or improve arthritis, kidney
stones, constipation, arteriosclerosis, obesity, glaucoma,
cataracts, diabetes, hypoglycemia, and many other diseases.
It’s not expensive and you should feel a difference
quickly, but you must drink eight to ten full glasses of water
daily.
So what is “quality water” and how can we
make an educated decision on providing ourselves with this
vital resource? Most
reliable books and resources on water agree that the purer the
water the better for you. Several home water purifiers are
available and many claim that their products are the best.
Our aim is to provide you with the information to
assist you to decide which system best suits your lifestyle
and financial constraints.
We can no longer assume that the water from our
taps at home is safe, healthy drinking water. Regardless of
the original source of tap water, it is vulnerable to a number
of different types of impurities, and may be full of harmful
chemicals and inorganic minerals that the body cannot use.
Steam-distillation consistently produces 99.99%
pure water when combined with post carbon filtration. The
water is slightly acidic, (but not enough to not be buffered
by your body’s own chemical balance) because the water
leaches a small amount of carbon dioxide from the air. Those
not in the know also claim steam-distilled water to be
damaging to your health because it leaches inorganic minerals
rejected by the cells and tissues of the body. This is
actually a good thing and live enzyme-attached minerals from
raw plant foods and juices remain the best source of minerals
for your live cells. Distillers are pricey up front and water
production is slow, averaging a litre per hour. However,
maintenance costs are low with only regular cleaning and 2-3
monthly replacement of a nominally priced post carbon filter
necessary.
Reverse osmosis is another fine way of
purifying water, but they also cost up front. Some are
concerned with water wastage during production, but suppliers
assure one that the water is going back into the municipal
water system. Check on maintenance costs and frequency of
replacing filters before purchasing such a system to make sure
it fits your budget.
Counter-top and plumbed-in filtration systems
making use of a variety of carbon, activated carbon,
polyethylene and ceramic filter combinations are available in
various designs and makes. Check for hidden costs with
plumbed-in units like pressure reducing valves and isolation
taps. These systems tend to be more affordable, but do plan
for replacing filters regularly to maintain water-quality.

The 4th annual Northwest Trade Expo
was held in Klerksdorp last week and it gave small micro and
medium sized companies from all over the province the chance
to show their goods to the community.
The event was hosted by Klerksdorp City Council
and funded by Southern District Council.
Anything from cultural art to gearboxes and
Pabx machines were on displayed. While some of these companies
are still clearly struggling, some others are well on their
way to greater success.

an open debate on Wednesday 17 March 2004 at 18h00, in the
Ballroom at the Civic Centre Klerksdorp.
All
contesting political parties have been invited. The purpose of the debate is to give each political party the
opportunity to address business on business related matters as

Homebuyers
may be disappointed that the week did not bring another cut in
interest rates but the Reserve Bank decision to keep the repo
rate at 8 percent may actually serve them better.
The Bank’s decision, which means that the “standard”
home loan rate will remain at the current 11,5 percent, was
largely based on its anticipation of upward pressure on
inflation as a result of food and fuel price increases in the
coming months.
The CPIX inflation rate rose to 4,2 percent in January from 4
percent in December - despite an interest-rate cut in December
– and most economists believe this reflects the start of an
upward trend, underpinned by strong consumer demand that saw
retail sales rise by 9,5 percent (year-on-year) in November.
The Bank’s hand was also strengthened by the fact that the
economy is already growing in response to last year’s series
of rate cuts. Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which began rising
in the third quarter of 2003, registered a quarter-on-quarter
annualised increase of 1,3 percent in the fourth quarter.
A rate cut would, of course, have weakened the rand and
pleased exporters, but balanced against that is the
expectation that the currency will not now make the sort of
gain seen in 2002 and 2003, and the fact that it’s current
strength supports sectors such as retail and construction that
will benefit from stronger domestic demand – and are labour-intensive.
What
is more, a stronger rand will lessen the impact of
international oil price hikes and help keep domestic fuel
prices down. A
factor which must be a concern considering the enormous effect
that fuel prices have on inflation.
From the point of view of homebuyers, it is also quite likely
that an interest rate cut of even 0,5 percent at this stage
would have sparked off another round of price increases that
would have outweighed the interest rate advantage.
Historically, every 1 percent decline in interest rates has
brought about a 10 percent increase in asking prices, so they
could have been expected to rise by about 5 percent in
response to a 0,5 percent cut.
That would, arguably, have pushed the average house price up
from the current R435 000 to R457 000 – and pushed the
monthly repayment on a 90 percent, 20-year loan for
newly-acquired “average” home up from R4173 to R4245 –
or by 1,7 percent.
In such a scenario, the household income required to qualify
for a new home loan would also have risen, from R13 900 (at
11,5 percent) to R14 150 (at 11 percent).
From a homeowner’s perspective, interest rate stability at
this point might also not be such a bad thing.
Although monthly loan repayments won’t drop, the fact
that the Bank seems determined to keep a lid on inflation will
no doubt boost consumer confidence, prolong the current demand
for property, and protect values.
With
luck, it may even obviate the need for any interest rate
increase later this year.

BMW will show its exhilarating Concept M5 at
this week’s Geneva Motor Show. This super V10 is a true
muscle machine and when the production version goes on sale
later this year it will target the Mercedes E55 AMG.
This exciting concept hints at what to expect
from the production M5 which will be introduced later this
year. A 5-litre
V10 muscle engine powers the aggressive looking concept car.
This potent unit has an output of about 370kW.
It also features BMW’s SMG transmission.
These photos of the Concept M5, which appeared
on the internet, have left BMW with a red face. Someone at
BMW’s head office in Münich is in hot water after the
photos appeared on the Internet. The car was supposed to be a
surprise for Geneva.

gesorg dat Schoonspruit nie met leë hande huis toe gaan nie.
Hulle het die geesbeker oortuigend gewen, Wesvalia was
in die tweede plek en KHS derde.
2004 se Interhoër is deur KHS aangebied en kan
sekerlik as ‘n groot sukses en oorwinning vir sport beskou
word.

This past weekend’s Powerade Vodacom Ultra
Challenge truly lived up to the promises made by organizers.
Powerade Vodacom, OFM, Overland, Supersport,
Cyclelab, Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom Municipalities, Agenbag
Motors all got together to present the biggest two day sport
event that the Northwest has ever seen. Over 4500 people
entered into the tree different events staged over the two
days.
Saturday morning 6 o clock saw the start of the
50km marathon that stretched from Klerksdorp to Potchefstroom.
Saturday afternoon 14h00 and it is time to take a one-mile
swim in the Potch dam. Sunday morning 7 o clock its time for a
nice 120km cycle ride. Imagine that. Most entries did not
compete in all three races, but there were almost 700 braves
that gave their all.

Civil Engineering in Klerksdorp:
WHAT do they do?
In our series of articles concerning Klerksdorp City Council,
it’s functions and structures; we would like to next focus
on the Civil Engineering Department.
Civil
Engineering is a major role player when it comes to the
provision and monitoring of services for roads, storm water
drainage, water supply, sanitation, building construction and
wasteland fill management. The department is headed by Mr. Nic
Els.
We
were fortunate enough to accompany Mr. Els and other members
of Council on a guided tour last Friday the 27th of
February.
The
tour took us to Jouberton and Khuma where we and other
interested parties were shown recently finished projects and
also projects that are currently in process of being
constructed. It ranged from sewernetworks to roads and payment
offices being constructed in these areas where previously
people did not have any of these services.
Klerksdorp experienced heavy rainstorms on the previous
day, and this also gave us an opportunity to visualize the
problems that Civil Engineering experience in their
work.
Most
projects make use of people in the townships to do the labour.
This way people are not only learning new skills, but jobs are
also created. These basic skills attained by people at ground
roots level will hopefully in future benefit them and the
community. What is more is that people living in a ward is
used to do the work, this creates the situation where people
also take ownership of the improvements done in their area,
thus ensuring the sustainability of the development.
According
to City Council’s annual report for 2002/2003 Civil
Engineering spent R 12 million upgrading service to the people
of Klerksdorp.
The
biggest problem currently faced by this department is the
eradication of the bucket system which is still used by 23000
households in the area.
The
total cost of this project is estimated at R207 million and
needs to be completed by the end of 2008.
