New Kia Sportage

Kia has just unveiled its second-generation Sportage in South Africa. At the recent launch, it was demonstrated just how versatile this SUV really is.

The Kia Sportage is a lifestyle vehicle. As such it needs to be equipped with all the latest convenience features, but also be tough enough to make it off the beaten track. As a small on-road orientated SUV, the Sportage does remarkably well.

The Sportage lends a lot of its styling cues from its bigger stablemate, the Sorento. Large wheel arches provide the broad-shouldered effect, while a raised centre section on the bonnet give it an imposing look.

High-impact side plastic mouldings also add to its rugged appearance. The headlamps are large and clear-lensed and the foglamps are integrated in the bumper.

The V6 and 2,0-litre turbodiesel versions have twin rectangular exhausts which cannot be missed. The rear window can be opened separately from the wide tailgate for easier loading of smaller objects.

The Sportage is available with a decent choice of powertrains, encompassing three engines, as well as manual or automatic transmissions.

The 2,0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit is available in 4x2 and 4x4 versions, with a power output of 104 kW with 188 Nm of torque.

The powerful 2,7-litre V6 delivers 128 kW and a decent 246 Nm of torque. The 2,0-litre turbodiesel powertrain produces 82 kW, along with 251 Nm of torque.

The new Kia is also equipped with all the trimmings, such as climate control, a pop-up centre armrest, sunglass holder, and a digital compass in the auto-dipping rear-view mirror. Leg room is also excellent.

In order to live up to the more rugged side of its character, the Sportage manages well off the beaten track. Ground clearance is a capable195 mm and its approach and departure angles are 28,8 degrees and 28,9 degrees respectively.

Add it all up and the Sportage is a very believable off-roader, but with all the creature comforts buyers want in an everyday vehicle.

GEMORS IN JOU MOTOR

'n Opvoubare krat is ideaal.

  • Moet jy kwitansies vir parkeerplek of brandstof bewaar?
