Come walk a mile

The Klerksdorp Street Mile, the biggest sporting event held in the city during the years 1983 to 1992, is back.

This event will be hosted by the Klerksdorp Sport Council on the 28th of August. As in the past, runners will be competing in Church Street with the finish, this year, at the City Mall.

Klerksdorp was well known for this race and great athletes like Matheus Temane competed. Unfortunately the mile was discontinued from 1992.

The Council was inundated with requests from athletes to revive this event and this was also the wish of the outgoing Mayor, Dr. Magome Masike.

The Klerksdorp Sport Council is adamant to put the city on the map again by organizing this event.

The street mile is a race where athletes compete against each other over a distance of one mile.

Athletes will compete in the following categories; girls and boys u/13, girls and boys u/15, girls and boys u/17, girls and boys u/19 as well as a woman open and men open category. There will also be a veteran (40+) and a wheelchair race.

Some of the most well know athletes in the country like Jean Verster, Mathews Temane, Johny Shuping and the Mogatsi brothers have already shown interest in participating.

Schools, clubs and individual athletes can contact Japie Olivier at (018) 462 7805 or Alet Kieser at 083 486 7038 for more information.
