On the third of September, Ms Nomonde Rasmeni, MEC of Social Development, made sure that the orphans and children of Masquassi Hills all had a smile on their faces.
Rasmeni distributed the last batch of winter school tracksuits to orphans and child headed households in Masquassi Hills. This initiative formed part of the 100 days pledge made by Premier, Edna Molewa to the people of the province.
The MEC officially launched the project in Rustenburg, Kgabutle high school in Moruleng. The project has so far benefited 640 children from 24 Offices of the Department of Social Development.
The roll out of the project forms part of the Social Safety Network to vulnerable groups especially children, youth and the elderly to respond to immediate needs of these groups, through the social relief and other developmental initiatives.
The tracksuits were produced by community projects through poverty alleviation programme funded by the government.
The support given to these projects is aimed at ensuring their financial viability. A total number of 22 income-generating projects have benefited from the programme. Success on the way for NW Club Cricket
On the 25th of August Northwest Cricket Association opened this year’s club season.
Amateur manager of Northwest Club Cricket, Basil Clarke open the season with the introduction of three different leagues that will be played this season.
The different leagues will be the Sedgars league which will consist of 65 overs competitions; prizes for the winning team include a visit to Windhoek, Namabia where they will play two matches. The prize is sponsored by the Namibian Cricket Board. The second league is the FFG limited over competition (45 overs) where the winning team receives a weekend at the Elgro Lodge with all expenses paid. Last but not least is the Elgro night league with 35 overs.
Jacques Faul, CEO of the Northwest Cricket Association said that their will be at least 31 days of professional cricket played at the stadium and their vision is to create super clubs.
He also thanked all their sponsors, whom without it would not be possible.
A big thank you to all their sponsors: Sedgars, FFG, Namibia Cricket Board, Elgro Lodge, W.L Ocshe, Flexi Club, Fruit and Vegetables and all their media partners.
BALLOON RELEASING PROJECT IN AID OF CANSA
Wilmed Park Oncology is the only Cancer treatment facility in the Northwest Province and Northern Free State.
All patients from this large district are referred to the oncology unit in Klerksdorp for their chemo and radiation treatment. Because radiation is administered over a period of around 6 weeks, it is very costly, and patients are forced to remain in Klerksdorp for the duration of their treatment.
A few are able to find accommodation with friends of the oncology unit but many are forced to make temporary home in expensive guest houses.
We are delighted to announce that the Cancer Association of SA (Cansa) has agreed in principle to run and administer an Interim Home in Klerksdorp for these patients, and also patients who need to have treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Klerksdorp.
Cansa already received a donation in the form of undeveloped stands in Klerksdorp, and now needs to develop it for an Interim Home.
Wilmed Park Oncology and Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket set a target of R50 000 by releasing 5000 balloons at the Klerksdorp Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket in Wilkoppies on the 27th of November 2004. The idea behind this project is not only raising much needed funds for building this Interim Home with Cansa, but also to give people the chance to release a past hurt or traumatic experience that is keeping them from moving forward in healing. You can even salute life for today, or someone you Love!
Inserting messages into the balloons and releasing them will be a strong symbolic process whereby people can free themselves from past traumatic experiences. Buy a balloon, insert a positive message and contribute to helping other not so fortunate people!
Balloons are sold for R10 each, and can be bought at Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket on Saturday 27 November 2004 at the doors, or everyday from 6 September 2004 at Wilmed Park Oncology.
This will be a fun filled event with entertainment!
People that are interested in taking part in the festivities, or if you would like to make a donation towards this worthy cause, can contact Charmaine at (018) 4681420. Further enquiries are welcome.
All proceeds will go towards CANSA and Wilmed Park Oncology will not benefit financially from this event.
