Sports Zone hosts elite tournament
On the 11th of September, Sports Zone hosted the Joe Miguel Cup.
Being an elite tournament with strict clothing measures and on invitation basis, only the most elite players participated.
The games were close and very competitive with only the “Best of the Best” claiming the top spot.
The Joe Miguel Cup Winner was Isaac Potsane from the Wise Guys Pool Club, runner up was Robbie Blignaut (Wise Guys Pool Club) and the best achieving lady was Elain Groenink (Wise Guys Pool Club).
Potchefstroom once again came alive with schoolboy cricket this past weekend when 14 schoolboys cricket from all over the country and Zimbabwe descended on Potchefstroom.
The occasion was the Heritage Cricket Festival held annually at Potchefstroom Boys High School. During the week 6 Northwest schools played against schools from other provinces on friendly basics.
The standard of cricket was very high and evident in the number of close matches that were played, and the week recording it’s first tie when College and Helpmekaar ended on the same score. This year four sides were undefeated at the end of the week.
Trinity House beat Westvalia, the Northwest Invitation side and Bergsig. St Martins beat St Dominics, ISSA and Prince Edward. Lichtenburg beat Helpmekaar, Randburg and St Dominics. College beat CBC, Littleton Manor and tied with Helpmekar.
Adventure racing is 'n multi-dissiplinêre sportsoort en behels onder meer roei, rotsklim, bergfietsry, stap, absailing, oriëntering, kaartwerk en alles wat die natuur en organiseerders kan uitdink.
Die span bestaan uit 6 lede waarvan 2 van die teenoorgestelde geslag moet wees.Die groep van 6 moet in GR.10 of 11 wees.By die afgelope provinsiale byeenkoms het die span van Wesvalia deurgedring na die SA byeenkoms Saterdag 24 Sept te Parys.
Die wedloop strek oor 120 km en gaan die fiksheid van die spanne behoorlik toets.'n Totaal van 18 skoolspanne oor die hele land gaan deelneem en die voorste 6 spanne sal SA by 'n internasionale "Adventure Challenge" verteenwoordig.
Wesvalia se span bestaan uit Franco Labuschagne, Stefan Laynes, Lani van Heerden, Lisa van Heerden, Charl Human en Jan-Harm Steenkamp.
College’s Record breaking season
Potch Boys High’s first team are enjoying a record season. This term College have played 10 matches winning 9 and loosing just the one against Rustenburg. They have also bettered the record for the most wins in the season (the season includes matches in the fourth and first term) the results are as follows:
Played 31 won 23 lost 6 drew 2
Old Boys may be interested in the records for most wins in a season listed below. Although difficult to compare because today the boys play more cricket than they did in the past it makes interesting reading.

Bryce Clarke scores his first international: College's first team scorer Bryce Clarke will be scoring his first international this week when South African A take on New Zealand in Potchefstroom. Bryce a grade 10 learner has scored for the first team for three years and scored many provincial games but this is his first international and he hopes to be awarded national scoring colours in the near future. |
