FINALLY APPROVED – REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY STANDARDS
The unit standards for the national qualifications in real estate have finally been approved - seven years since their creation was first mooted by the Estate Agency Affairs Board.
Bill Rawson, national president of the Institute of Estate Agents (IEASA), says the South African Qualifications Authority has confirmed to him that the standards have been approved and should shortly be available on the SAQA website.
Paul Kruger, National Member and Regional Committee Chair of Seeff Properties mentioned that this it great news for the industry. We cannot over-emphasise the importance this will have for the real estate industry.
This will ensure that estate agents have proper professional qualifications. In the past, basic sales skills were enough for the real estate industry and even people without any basic training could start their own estate agency business (even with only one year experience).
Today it is in several aspects a para-legal occupation, and it becomes more complex and challenging with every year that passes. Buyers and sellers are more educated, sophisticated and well informed and for that alone, proper professional qualifications are essential.
Estate agents are in direct contact with most people's biggest asset, assist buyers and sellers with one of their biggest decisions they will ever make and for that, the industry cannot allow people without proper qualifications dealing with such major responsibilities.
The new qualifications are an NQF4 (matric-level) certificate, an NQF5 (post-matric-level) national certificate, and an NQF6 (tertiary) diploma. In addition to real estate, their curricula include marketing, finance, management, human resources, and mathematical literacy.
Seeff Potchefstroom is proud to announce that all our agents are fully qualified and all are members of the EAAB (Estate Agency Affairs Board). Paul Kruger the Director of Seeff Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp as well as a National Member of Seeff Properties and Regional Committee Chair, studied at PUK for 7 years. He finished his Master Degree in Business Administration in 2001.
Apart from the EAAB qualification, Seeff agents must attend the Seeff In-house on-going training program. The well known DAVID KNOX MENTOR series was also completed by Seeff agents in Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp and Parys.
The next training Seminar is 12 October 2004. Combine this with 40 years of company experience and you get the best Real Estate Agencies in the country. With all this in mind all buyers and sellers can rest assure that all their property enquiries and transactions will be dealt with by professional and highly qualified people.
