MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL ....
Klerksdorp – Last week Wednesday the 29th of September 2004, Yourcity in partnership with St. Andrews, hosted a “get together” for the Yourcity Mother/Daughter, Grand-mother/Grandchild Competition.
St.Andrews sponsored scones, cool-drink and tea. All the competition’s participants were present and had a chance to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Later that evening the winners were announced and prizes were handed out.
The winner of this year’s mother-daughter competition is Miana & Diamé Dahms, with Dawn & Macyla Strydom chosen as the runner up. The grandmother and grandchild prize went to Ann Milho & Grandchild with Jessica and Fatima Gomes chosen as the runner up .
It was definitely a proud moment for mothers and grandmothers alike when their names were finally chosen out of all the participants. The reader’s choice award went to Audrey & Meghan Schutte who received the most votes.
This year’s Mother-Daughter competition was a huge success, and had a total of 46 entries. The plan is to run this competition again next year and make it a lot bigger.
All mothers and grandmothers should be prepared to take up the challenge next year. Be prepared to get out the make-up kit and call the photographers to spice up your chances.
We would like to give special thanks to all our sponsors for donating prizes and participating in this fun filled competition. We hope to see even more participants take part in this event next year. More photo’s on page 4.
Tusk Rio Casino opened its doors officially to the public on the evening of 30 September with glitzy event that saw an impressive guest list of the who’s who of the North West Province.
The myriad of lights drew guests nearer to the newly completed casino where they were greeted by scenery with a true Rio flavour. Palm trees swayed in the cool night air, the impressive fountain gushed with excitement under the high arches of the porte cochere, the neon sign shone brightly over the entrance and dazzlingly dressed dancers with typical carnival dance moves entertained guests from the moment they arrived.
The event was held in the Barnyard Theatre and catered to 250 guests from the Klerksdorp and surrounding areas. Honoured guests who addressed the attendees were the Premier of the North West Province, Mrs Ednah Molewa, the Chairman of the North West Gaming Board, Miss Thebi Moja and the Mayor of Klerksdorp, Mr Jaycee Nxamakele.
The revealing of the plaque took place in spectacular fashion. The house lights dimmed with all concentration and all eyes focusing on the smoke-enveloped stage. Music started playing whilst a glittering, glowing globe was slowly lowered from the ceiling. With the excitement running high, the globe slowly opened with frozen smoke cascading out of it. The gorgeous Lorcia of Backstage fame, dressed like a Brazilian goddess, appeared, almost floating from the stage to present Premier Molewa with the official plaque, a gesture stating that Tusk Rio Casino is now officially open.
With the official duties completed, guests could sit back, relax and enjoy a taste of ‘Forever Young’, the first show to christen the Barnyard stage featuring Brandon Auret of Isidingo fame. The show took all on a musical journey through time with hits and impersonations ranging from Marilyn Monroe and ‘The King’ to Bruce Springsteen and Janis Joplin.
Gaming director of Tusk Resorts, John Barrett said: “ We are extremely pleased to make a new home for Tusk in Klerksdorp and we look forward to many happy relationships with its residents.”
Everyone was in high spirits after the show and was invited to continue the party on the casino floor. It was a star-studded event that put Klerksdorp on the map as one of the party capitals of the North West Province. |
