Klerksdorps strategy to win Cleanest City Competition

Klerksdorp – On Thursday the 30th of September 2004 a meeting was held to discuss our city’s strategy to win this year’s Cleanest City award.

“Don’t clean, but keep clean” was the words of the MEC for community services. Representatives from different sectors came together and discussed how, they were planning on promoting a clean environment within Klerksdorp.

Representatives from the Municipality, Wilmed Park Hospital, the SAPS, business sector and various others were all represented.

The judges will be judging Klerksdorp in the first week of November 2004. Areas where they will be focusing their attention on include shopping centers, bus stops, the taxi rank, medical centers, cemeteries, abattoir, parks, tourist attractions and various other places of interest.

This is our city and we should all take pride in the fact that we won last year. Now with the help of each and every one of us we CAN win again. It is the responsibility of every individual to do his/her part to help.

Businesses who would like to do their part, and want to take part, are requested to send a letter of commitment to P.O. Box 99, Klerksdorp, 2570.

Aardklop a huge success

A few days before the start of Aardklop, you could feel the buzz in the air and hear the stampede of feet rushing towards Potchefstroom and then came the big bang.

Hundreds of thousands of people joined in the festivities at Potchefstroom. Students, parents, children and artists were all  seen as one.

Aardklop was a great success this year, with even more people attending this year than ever before.  The streets were full of interesting people, who were very pleasant to speak to.The sound of music traveled through the air as bands got the crowds going and Beer Gardens hummed with life.

If you took a second to look around, you could see the joy in the air, children roaming around with sun lit smiles on their faces, students interacting with one another and learning about the importance of culture in the world we live today.

I see Aardklop as a culture, a learning place to learn about the things most important to us.  Its all about the music, art, culture and the people.  Aardklop isn't just about fun and drinking, its about us.

Drops also fill a bucket

A plea from Stilfontein SPCA. In these difficult financial times, when we all battle to keep our heads above water, and there is such a big demand placed on both companies and private individuals to lend a helping hand to those who are in need.

It is quite understanding that people get irritated every time they see or hear of another non-profit organization wanting to part them of their hard-earned money.

However, there is little else to be done but to ask for donations, as that is the main source of income for many non profit organizations, such as the SPCA.

So here we go! Please can we have some of your money?

It does sound rather harsh, but let us clarify the matter a bit. What we want to ask the residents of the KOSH area to do, is to part with R1-00 a month per family.

R1-00 per family translates into several thousands of rands per month, that the SPCA could use to fund all their activities, caring for stray, sick and lost animals and generally helping to maintain a happier, healthier and safer environment for every pet owner and their animals in the KOSH area.

We really want to plead with the residents of KOSH to please take the trouble to donate just R1-00 per family to their local SPCA branch, as only R1-00 won’t be missed by the family, but when added together, could replenish an SPCA’s fast dwindling funds.

Should any one be interested in joining the SPCA for only R35-00 p.a. Or in making a regular donation to the Stilfontein SPCA, for instance R10-00 or R20-00 per month, please contact the offices of the Stilfontein SPCA, and arrangements can be made for your donation to be transferred by debit order. Any donation of money, jumble, scrap paper, or animal food is always greatly appreciated.

Love and care for your pets!
