HERITAGE CENTRE AND TOURIST INFO OFFICE OPEN Goudkoppie Heritage Hill Arts and Craft Centre and the Tourist Information Office of the City of Matlosana was officially opened on Thursday 29 September. The opening coinsided with Heritage and Tourism month celebrations in the city. Close to a thousand people celebrated their heritage on the day by tasting a wide variety of indigenous foods exhibited in the stalls. Local artists and crafters displayed their creativity and the audience was entertained by some of the most talented cultural dance groups in the area. The centre situated on the N12 right at the entrance to the city will not only afford local crafters the opportunity to exhibit their products in the stalls provided, but the Tourist Information Office will provide a much needed information and tourism service to local residents and tourists. Businesses and tourism product owners can make use of the marketing opportunities that this centre has to offer to grow and promote their businesses. Educational tours explaining the heritage of the area will be offered to schools and other interested groups. In his address, the Director of Tourism Development in the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Ishmael Kgokong, praised the city for the initiative taken to establish such a facility. He urged people to use the opportunities offered to them. In conclusion he boasted that the North West Province has once again excelled during the National Tourism Month Celebrations held at Bloemfontein on 27 September. He congratulated Wesvalia and Schoonspruit High Schools for winning the coveted National Tourism Month Schools competition. Learners and educators from these two schools will be travelling to Germany in November to represent South Africa at the Annual Global Travel and Tourism (GTTP) Learner Conference together with Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Jamaica, the UK, Russia and the USA.
The centre will be in operation from Monday 10 October. |
