NW POWERADE DRAGONS WON GRIQUAS CONVINCINGLY

3 Day Match

A great team spirit and very good allround performance led the NW Powerade Dragons to victory.

Werner Coetzee in the first innings and Mohammed Akoojee in the second innings, scored a maiden century for the team.  With the first innings score on 381/9, the Dragons could control the game. Driaan Steyn and Jaun le Roux both scored a half century during the first innings of the game.  Jaco Campher did very well with his bowling spell and took 3 wickets for the Dragons with his debut match.  With the Griqualand West second innings Goolam Bayat took 3 quick wickets with the new ball.  Griquas was bowled out in less than two sessions (40 overs).

1 Day Match

Losing the toss on a flat Sedgars Park pitch wasn't too dishearting.  Griqualand West got 281/4 in 45 overs with Captain Wendell Bossenger scoring an undefeated 150.

NW Powerade Dragons did not kick off to good start by losing 3 early wickets.  Werner Coetzee and Mohammed Akoojee set NW back on track by scoring 71 (Akoojee) and 110 (Coetzee) not out.  Riaad Bayat scored a quick 47 not out and send NW home with 6 overs to spare.

SOUTH AFRICA “A” SIDE vs NEW ZEALAND IN POTCHEFSTROOM

On Sunday 16 October the South Africa “A” team will play New Zealand at Sedgars Park in Potchefstroom.

The SA “A” team will arrive in Potchefstroom on Saturday 15 October.  The team will have a practice session at Sedgars Park from 09:30  12:00.  Members of the public are welcome to come and watch the practice session.  The New Zealand team will only arrive on Sunday morning prior to the game.

The game will start at 10:00 on Sunday.  The gates will open at 08:30 and the first 200 cars will be allowed to park inside the Stadium at a minimal fee.  NO ALCOHOL or GLASS BOTTLES will be allowed.  The public can bring their own braai packs/lunch packs and gas braai to be used at demarcated areas in the Stadium.

Competitions will be run through out the day during the game.

The Selection Panel has decided to keep the victorious Standard Bank South Africa “A” squad that won the Tri-angular Series final against New Zealand “A” in Sri Lanka last week.  The only absentee from the reduced 13-man squad that will be led by Jacques Rudolf is Highveld Lions fast bowler, Garnett Kruger.
