Eskom and The City of Matlosana Join Hands in Electricity-Saving Project

Motla Engineering, an Energy Services Company (ESCO), has been appointed by Eskom and approved by the City Council of Klerksdorp to implement Eskom's Residential Load Management (RLM) programme in Klerksdorp, Orkney, Stilfontein and Jouberton.

RLM is implemented by Eskom and local authorities countrywide to meet the challenge posed by peak demand in South Africa. RLM is aimed specifically at the residential sector, in other words, electricity consumers at home.  Geysers consume significant quantities of electricity and can be used to control the peak demand. The impact on geyser water temperature will be within acceptable limits. The project involves the connection of control units (or relays) to geysers, allowing them to be switched on and off by remote control. The main aim is to assist municipalities in improving the management of their electricity supply to consumers, particularly during peak periods, resulting in a monetary saving for the municipality, and affordable electricity prices for its customers.

According to Mr Johan Mocke of Motla Engineering, contractors appointed by the company, will be visiting Orkney homes in the following wards, from now until 21 November 2005:

  •       Ward 22 (Aqua Park, Victory Park,            Eastleigh, Orkney Park,    Ceronio Park, Luckhoff Park, Orkney Town, Reef Park,   Rotary Park)

  •       Ward 30 (Vaal Park, Golf Park, Lourens   Park, Rotary Park and Orkney Town

The aim of the visits, are to conduct a control receiver audit amongst homes in these areas, to establish whether units, which were installed before, are still in a working condition. “The units will be tested and re-wired where needed. Those units which are unrepairable, will be removed and a new ripple control unit will be installed”,  Mr Mocke said.

Home-owners are warned to only allow contractors with proper Motla Engineering identification cards into their homes. Enquiries can be directed to the Municipal Call Centre, at (018) 468-5883, during office hours, and at (018) 468-464-8060, after hours.

Trade Conditions Remain Strong

Overall trade conditions remained strong and in positive territory in September 2005. After dipping to 47.2 in July, the Trade Activity Index (TAI) rebounded to 51.3 in September. The TAI was positively affected by stronger sales volumes, higher inventory levels and more new orders. Employment fell back somewhat.

Selling prices are on the increase, as 54% of respondents experienced increasing prices. About 60% of respondents were subjected to rising input prices. Fuel prices are most probably having the greatest impact, for instance, in Gauteng, diesel prices rose by 31%, a year earlier in September.

The general high level of trade activity is reflected by buoyant new vehicle sales, as well as retail sales and sales of other durable goods. The considerable increase in credit extended to the private sector, and wage increases above the inflation rate, are keeping trade conditions in positive territory.

Some salient features for September 2005 are:

•           Sales volumes continued to improve
•           New orders increase
•           Increasing backlog on orders, suggests further demand pressure
•           Improved supplier deliveries imply no supply constraints at present
•           Higher prices could lead to rising   inflationary pressure
•           Possible job losses

We are in the process of buying a Christmas gift for each child, and also want to present a Christmas Day programme, to entertain the children and provide food to those attending the event.

For this office to make it all possible, we respectfully need important and influential businessmen/women like yourself, to assist us in this matter.

We trust that our request will be highly considered, as together we can value the well-being of our children, and make them smile.
