To all ye folk, villagers, merchants and peasants alike The kingdom of Stilfontein's Child Welfare, along with the City of Klerksdorp and Country Caterers, declare by way of this modern invention called e-'male', that thou step back in time to Circa 10 AD, and join us for a bout of jesting, jousting and feasting. This welfare ale shalt take place at the Castle of Strathvaal, in the kingdom of Stilfontein, on 29 October, and activities shalt commence around 19:00, and not a nigh sight later. The Jester, Tobi Jooste, along with a band of bards shalt provide merriment for the night. It is declared by the king, that all attendants shalt be suitably attired in Medieval rags, lest thy wisht to be condemned to the gallows or the stocks. Indications are that another invention unheard of in Medieval times, a thing called 'Tell-A-Vision', might be there to cover the festivities, whatever it might mean. An althing shalt also be held to establish the most suitably attired pair, and the king shalt allot a prize to them. Several consolation allotments shalt too be made. Merry goers are advised that the meal shalt be attacked with thou bare hands remember we are in Medieval times here and the only knives we know, are swords and the only forks we know are used on the haystacks! Ye presence at the Castle of Strathvaal, shalt require a sacrament of R150-00 per person. An alehouse shalt provide good ale and foreign wines in exchange for ye coin. Space at the castle is limited, so thou art advised that it would be best ye use another modern-day invention called a 'Tell-Of-Own' to contact Mariska at Country Caterers on (018) 484-3571, to book ye table. Tickets also available at Youcity Offices. Decree issued by the Organising Committee of the Rose Festival Mardi Gras Stilfontein. For more information regarding the Rose Festival Mardi Gras on 28 & 29 October, and all of its activities, as well as how your company can become involved, you are requested to contact Pieter Stols on (018) 484-5492 which is the 'Tell-Of-Own' and 'Facts'! P. S. Each person attending, will receive a complimentary ceramic wine goblet. The first bottle of wine on your table will be sponsored. A painting by Mariaan Rossouw; an autographed cricket shirt and various other items will be auctioned off during the evening. NATIONAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT MONTH By Johan Marais South African commuters not accustomed to using public transport have been spurred to do so in an awareness campaign started last week by the public transport industry. In metropolitan areas there are public buses, trains and taxis fulfilling commuters' needs. In the KOSH area, apart from the occasional chartered bus, taxis are used extensively and seriously depended upon by the majority of the population each day. The country would come to a standstill if the taxi industry abruptly ceased to exist! The industry needs to be well managed and organised to operate as smoothly as possible. Locally, this is exactly what the Southern Region Taxi Council & Transport Co-operative Ltd is attempting under the leadership of regional manager, Frans Moeketsi. He divulged interesting facts that shed light on the enormity of this national industry and said it needs to be developed regularly to conform to commuters and operators best interests. The southern region serves Fochville, Ventersdorp, Potchefstroom, Wolmaransstad, Makwassie, Leeudoringstad and the KOSH area with 1186 operators owning 3740 vehicles. There are 277 000 taxis operating in the country commuting 72% of the total population. The market is saturated as prospective operators wait to be allocated an opportunity to join the industry. The Public Transport Charter enables commuters and the public to voice their concerns, especially with taxis. The government protects passengers in legally licensed taxis with insurance cover through the National Land Transport Transitional Act in events of liability claims. Commuters using illegally operated taxis are at risk in this regard. Certain private older vehicle taxis called tambais operate on shorter unofficial routes with fewer commuters. They fulfil a need where operators with high overhead expenses would not make a viable existence. Frans Moeketsi says it is also envisaged to manage and formalise the tambai industry for greater efficiency. Locally they would be called Kosh-cabs.
