From 18 to 20 February the Powerade Vodacom Ultra Challenge will take place in Klerksdorp. But this year the fireworks promises to steel the show. The Powerade Vodacom Ultra Challenge is a unique concept that started in 2004, currently it is the biggest corporate involved event in the Potchefstroom and KOSH area. The event was supported in 2004 by 4500 athletes and promises to be even bigger and better in 2005 with the combined efforts between the City Council of Potchefstroom and the City Council of Klerksdorp. The main sponsors Vodacom and ABI, with the brand Powerade, included a couple of add on events to make the weekend even more special with the Sport Expo. The sport expo will also future the involvement of the surrounding schools with seven-a-side rugby, seven-a-side netball, soccer, volleyball and a drum majorette competition. The event also sees the inclusion of an accolade system where the athletes are motivated to enter as many events as possible. There will be the Pioneer Marathon with the 5km, 10km, 21.1km and 42.2km run where you can earn accolades with each event, the Overland Cycle Race where you can earn extra points for the time trail mountain bike race and last but not least the Stringrays Open Water which will take place at the Klerksdorp Dam. For the swimmers there will be a 1 mile for boy and girls as well as a 1 mile for men and woman. For those of us that are not so fit there are also a 750m and 375m for all genders and ages. Anja Hagen en Marizaan Oosthuizen van Laerskool Saamtrek sit hul tweestryd voort in die 800m vir dogters o/13. Marizaan kry die oorhand in die 800m en ook `n eerste plek in die hoogspring.
