Groundbreaking Development for Hospice North West

The Hospice Community House in Jouberton is currently being renovated to be able to care for 8 patients. These patients are discharged from the hospital. In transition- either getting well enough to go back home, or unfortunately passing away.

They have gratefully received funds to set up the project and the challenge now lies in having enough funds to run it successfully.  This project needs to be stocked from the bottom curtains, linen, crockery, cutlery, kitchen utensils, stationery, medical equipment, carpets, food and anything that a new home requires as well as additional staff  members consisting of two professional nurses, eight caregivers, a cook and cleaner.

This is a pilot project but hopefully the project can be duplicated in four other areas as well, when funding becomes available.

Funding for projects such as the Community House, patient care and for running their Daycare Center and offices is sought by writing proposals to Government Departments as well as  businesses.

They also run income generating projects such as 2 second-hand shops (the community are encouraged to donate all their pre-loved goods), monthly book sales (donations most welcome), wonderful bead work and their annual fundraisers such as Musical Events, talks and teas. Volunteers are desperately needed to join the team to assist in arranging events.

Further fundraising events include the Hospice Week that takes place nationally from 1 to 9 May 2005. Hospice North West will host the annual fete on 2 May at Hospice House 13 Hendrik Potgieter Street, Oudorp, and the Ballet Theatre African will dance on 5 May in the Auditorium.
