South African National 4x4 challenge Saturday 2 April 2005 is a date to remember for all serious 4x4 enthusiasts in the North West area because the 2nd round of the South African National 4x4 Challenge Championship Series will be contested at Raaswater on the outskirts of Potchefstroom on this day. North West hosted a National 4x4 Challenge during 2001, therefore this is an event not to be missed. For those enthusiasts that have not yet heard of this very exciting sport, it can be summed up as a challenge for 4x4 vehicles to try to overcome 12 serious obstacles laid out in very rough terrain. Forget what you thought constituted a 4x4 obstacle and come and join in the excitement of competitors pitting their vehicles against monstrous ditches, rocks and inclines! Points are lost for reversing or touching the gateposts of an obstacle, so it's not about speed but rather about serious 4x4 powers. Vehicles are divided into 6 classes : The grading of obstacles is adjusted to suit the performance of the different classes to keep things interesting. Potchefstroom will also be the 2nd event to count towards the Northern Region Championship, so lots of excitement is expected as competitors try their best to improve their standings in the championship. The action starts at 10h00 in the morning and carries on till late in the afternoon. Ample, safe parking is available as are sufficient, clean toilets. Lots of food and drink stalls are placed strategically to the one side of the obstacles within easy walking distance. Watch this space next week for more info on contesters and the programme of the day.
