KLERKSDORP WATER FESTIVAL IS COMING

This annual event has been a huge success and is held in Klerksdorp.

"The slightest suggestion of the two events to run on different dates is not an option, the success of the event is in the combination of National and Local organisers working together" Sandy Botha - Divisional Head Marketing for The City Council mentioned at a meeting which was held in Klerksdorp on 15 March 2005.

"The event has huge financial spin off's for local businesses and brings thousands of people to Klerksdorp. It must continue to do so."

The Klerksdorp Water Festival/Formula 1 Power Boat Challenge will be taking place in Klerksdorp at The Klerksdorp Dam on the 16 and 17 April 2005.

Support and response which was received from the local business community, media, City Council and main sponsors of the event was phenomenal.

An emergency meeting was held with both organisers Klerksdorp Water Festival and Formula 1 Power Boating SA, appealing to them to bring both events under 1 banner ended favourably.

It was agreed that the two events will not be split in the interest of the klerksdorp community.

Phil Louw of Danlou Motors who was originally responsible for bringing National Formula 1 power boat racing to Klerksdorp waters pulled all stops available to him and agreed to run the Klerksdorp Water Festival in conjunction with the National Formula 1 Power Boat Championships. The event promises to be bigger and better this year.

A new transparent and structured committee has been formed to assist the previous organisers of the event this year. This committee will endeavour to make the event a huge success once again.

The main objective of the committee is to involve the broader community who should be benefiting in various financial spin off's available to them from the activities needed for the event i.e. food stalls, accommodation, entertainment, marketing opportunities etc.

Many activities are planned on and off the water and Klerksdorpians can be assured of two days with fun and entertainment.

There will be many branding opportunities for all businesses of Klerksdorp.

Please contact Sandy Botha on (018) 484 7003 or Elmarie Fuhri on 082 894 5362 for more information on sponsorship opportunities and more information on how to get involved.

Library Week

By Lisa Rivett

It's South African Library Week, and the Klerksdorp library is inviting everyone to come and enjoy their multitude of books.

This year's theme is, ”Libraries Opening the Doors of Learning and Culture to All.” During the week the library will be handing out special bookmarks to promote literacy awareness.

The library showcases other events throughout the year to promote literacy. One of these is the Library Awareness program. This program invites local schools to spend an afternoon at the library. They are given a tour of the facility, and shown how to join. The staff also takes the time to talk to students about the advantages of the library and the importance of reading.

A special holiday program is being offered free of charge to all young children aged 3 to 11 years. It will be held on March 23 and March 30 from 10am to 12pm.

Children are treated to a variety of entertainment such as; puppet shows, videos, crafts, and fantastic stories to enjoy.

This is a great way to get children excited about books at an early age.

Everyone can benefit from a trip to the library. Take the opportunity to come and visit this week.
