NEW DEVELOPMENT FOR STILFONTEIN By Lisa Rivett The recent purchase of the Stilfontein golf course could give the community's economy a positive boost. The private company who bought the golf course plans on developing it into the Eagles Creek Golf Estate. Plans are still in the initial stages, and city council is supportive of the idea. Since the Estate will be targeting national, international, and local people it could bring a much-needed economic influx to the area. The idea behind Eagles Creek Golf Estate is to offer more than just golfing. The developers have plans to add a nature reserve to the area, and offer activities such as squash and tennis. For those looking for something more relaxing, there will also be a health and beauty spa. The many water features will provide opportunities for fishing. Residents will be able to take advantage of the wedding, Hotel and conference facilities situated on the Estate. With very reasonable prices being set for lots, Eagles Creek Golf Estate is being marketed as affordable luxury. Approximately 500 Lots will be available for buyers. Buyers will have full title for their property, and the houses will be built according to the style of Eagles Creek. As an added bonus, Eagles Creek will have roaming security in addition to an electrified fence around the perimeter. In light of Stilfontein's recent troubles, it is good to see some positive developments for the community. For more details on Eagles Creek Golf Estate, or if you are interested in purchasing a lot please contact, Mariette at 084-985-2105, Hannes at 072-768-1979, or Pieter at 082-777-1753. By Lisa Rivett “The City of People”, Klerksdorp has a welcoming atmosphere that is felt by everyone. Over the Easter holiday, Your City, decided to find out what the residents of Klerksdorp really thought about their city. Most people responded that Klerksdorp is, “the perfect size”. It's not too small and offers residents just about anything they want in terms of shopping and amenities. On the other hand, it's not too big. Residents like the fact that they do not have to deal with stressful “big city” traffic. One person even commented that every time she has to travel to Johannesburg it reminds her how much she likes Klerksdorp. Another benefit about the size of the city is that people still have a strong sense of community. Neighbours and strangers alike are approachable, friendly, and always seem to have a smile for you. Some commented that this provides residents with a good environment to raise their children. Next to size, its people, were mentioned as a favourite aspect of Klerksdorp. Now we know that Klerksdorp truly deserves its title, “City of People”. Another comment that locals had about Klerksdorp was that they liked its location. Being close to Potchefstroom University, Faan Meinjies Nature Reserve, and the Vaal River were seen as positive points. When asked about their favourite place to visit in Klerksdorp, locals came up with a few different answers. It seems people like to shop and watch movies at the City Mall. They enjoy local restaurants like the Zoo, which offers something for the entire family. The Dros was also suggested as a great place to meet up with friends. The new Tusk Rio Casino with the Barnyard Theatre was also a definite favourite. Many said they are quite happy with the Barnyard Theatre because it attracts more entertainment to the city. An interesting point to note was that not one person interviewed had a negative comment about Klerksdorp. One man even stated, “he likes the city so much, he can't even describe it in words.” Thanks to all the people who showed such great community spirit in being interviewed for this article. We can all count ourselves fortunate to be living in such a wonderful city. HOAX PHONE CALL UPSETS BUSINESS OWNERS IN KLERKSDORP It has been brought to our attention that many hoax phone calls are being made to business owners in Klerksdorp asking for assistance/sponsorship. The alleged phone calls are apparently coming from The Office of The Executive Mayor of Klerksdorp. The City Council of Klerksdorp would like to alert business owners to this unruly behaviour. Should business owners suspect any foul play in the future please contact Sandy Botha on (018) 484 7042 immediately. Sponsorship requests should not be entertained telephonically. Sponsorship requests from the Council must be in writing on official council stationery and verified with senior management. Please do not hesitate to contact Sandy Botha on (018) 484 7042 should you require any further information. By Lisa Rivett Easter is a wonderful time of year. It offers us the opportunity to spend time with friends and family. Often this means going on holiday, having a braai, and of course eating Easter chocolates! Unfortunately these fun times can also result in picking up some unhealthy habits, and a few extra kilos. Thankfully it isn't that difficult to be, “heart smart”. On their website, www.heartfoundation.co.za, The South African Heart Foundation offers some great tips for getting back to healthy living. Changing eating habits after a holiday is often easier said then done. Just remember to start small. It will increase your chances of success. Some ideas to try are; eating fish more often, trimming the visible fat off meat, and having a “vegetarian night” once a week. Trying to avoid fatty foods, and foods that are high in cholesterol, can also be a great way to start. The Heart Foundation's website provides an informative list of these types of foods. They also suggest increasing the amount of fibre in your diet and consuming more fruits and vegetables. Keeping prepared fruits and vegetables in the fridge makes it easier to choose them as snacks. This can help to increase your daily fruit and vegetable intake. Exercise is also an essential part of the health equation. To some this can be the hardest part. Don't worry though, it does not mean you have to spend hours in a gym to get some exercise. Activities such as taking your dog for a walk, gardening, and even house work, will help increase the amount of calories you burn each day. The South African Heart Foundation also provides helpful hints about being more active. They suggest taking the stairs instead of an elevator, and parking your car at the far end of the parking lot. These are just a few tips to get you started. Remember to check out the Heart Foundation's website at, www.heartfoundation.co.za, For more details on keeping yourself healthy and being “heart smart”. |
