By Lisa Rivett “Piano Boys” is a musical journey through the careers of Elton John and Billy Joel. It is currently playing at Tusk Rio's Barnyard Theatre and runs until May 15th. The extremely talented eight-member cast consists of James Dobson (piano, vocals), Sean Butler (piano, vocals), Rike Coetzer (saxophone, harmonica, vocals), Adriaan Beecham (guitar, vocals), Mark Freel (bass, vocals), Colin Heaney (drums), Cherise Roberts (vocals), and Jack Deklerk (camera). James, Sean, Rike, and Jack are members of the original cast who began touring with “Piano Boys” in May of last year. The rest of the performers have joined the group at various times throughout the year. All of the cast members have extensive musical backgrounds, and James Dobson has had previous success singing as Elton John. “Piano Boys” has toured around to many different Barnyard Theatres in South Africa. When asked how Klerksdorp's Barnyard Theatre rates, cast members gave our audience a “thumbs up”. Cherise Roberts says her favorite part about performing here is when the audience gets involved. She also commented that she would like to see more people at the shows. Saxophone player, Rike Coetzer, said she really enjoys performing in Klerksdorp. She stated that the audience is always very warm and welcoming to the cast. Everyone agreed that even if the audience was small, they were supportive and enthusiastic about the show. “Piano Boys” is an excellent tribute to Elton John and Billy Joel. It is filled with great music, great costumes, and lots of fun. “Piano Boys” is definitely a show you do not want to miss.
