4x4 Eco Challenge

By Lisa Rivett

The 4x4 Eco-Challenge held at Eland Safari Lodge on April 30th is bound to be loads of fun for the whole family.

This won't be your typical 4x4 event. The Eco-Challenge is set up to involve the entire family. Participants will run a course through the game farm. There will be stops along the way where contestants will have “mini-challenges” to complete. These challenges will range from solving a simple clue to doing tricks with a bucket of water. Mom or Dad can drive and the kids can help with the other activities. The course itself is designed so that any normal commercial 4x4 can handle it.

Registration starts at 8am with the program beginning at 10am. There will be events in different classes including a special quad bike challenge. Exhibits from Toyota, Ford, and other motor vehicle companies will be on display. Plenty of delicious food and drinks will also be available.

One of the highlights of the day will be a special aerial shot of everyone's vehicle lined up to spell 4x4 2005. This will be a great memento for people to have of a fun-filled family day. An M.C. will be commentating about the Eco-Challenge throughout the day so that you don't miss a thing.

In the evening there will be a prize-awarding ceremony. Braai packs will be available for those interested in a “lekker braai” after the challenge. There is more than R10, 000 in prizes up for grabs.

The cost to enter your vehicle in the Eco-Challenge is R100 per vehicle and that includes 2 people. Entering a quad bike costs R80, and also includes 2 people. An entrance fee of R15 per adult, and R10 per child will be charged to come watch the event. For more information, or to enter your 4x4, please contact Eland Safari Lodge.

A Company with Tradition

By Lisa Rivett

Since 1948 Bowcliffe Auto Electricians have been providing outstanding service for their customers.

Located on the corner of Emily Hobhouse and Boom streets in Klerksdorp, Bowcliffe has seen many changes over the years. Shaun Lane, an employee of Bowcliffe, mentioned that when the company first opened, the building across the street used to be a stable for horses. Now Bowcliffe has shown that by keeping high quality and service standards they have been able to remain on top of their field.

What makes Bowcliffe such a unique company is the loyalty of their staff and customers. Some employees have been working at Bowcliffe for over 15 years. Some of Bowcliffe's clients have been coming there for over 35 years. Tommy Lane, owner of Bowcliffe, says he remembers meeting some customers when he was young, and now their children are dealing with Bowcliffe. Everyone at Bowcliffe would like to say a heartfelt, “thank you” to all of his or her customers whose patronage over the years is greatly appreciated.

Bowcliffe Auto Electricians service starters, alternators, injectors, diesel pumps, and do rewiring for many types of vehicles. They also have spare parts available for any auto-electrical need.
