Martin Luther King once said: 'I have a dream…' Royal Rubuxa a young man who grew up in Jouberton has a dream too, with your support he can realize that dream. If Royal can have it his way he'll be off to the United Kingdom to train with Tottenham Hotspurs as South Africa's soccer king. Royal believed in his soccer talent and entered the 'SABC 1 Sokka Kings' contest, one of over 150 000 hopeful believers. Royal made it to the final ten - a lifetime dream come true! More than 3000 young soccer players from North West Province vied for a chance to be on the SABC 1 show “Sokka Kings”. They were also competing against players from the rest of South Africa to earn one of 50 spots on the television show. The show aims to develop the skills of young South African soccer players. Since it began the “Sokka Kings” has cut 50 players into 20 and now 10. In the end one young player will be chosen as the best in South Africa. If Royal wins he will get to train with an international team and given a year's contract with his South African team of choice. Royal told Yourcity that he already feels like a celebrity. Children from his neighborhood run to hug him, and everyone seems to know him already. Royal lives with his aunt, who said the first time she saw him play soccer on television she cried. She is extremely proud of him and admits she still cries when he's on television. “She has been good to me, once I play for an international team I will send her money, to improve her standard of living,” Royal proudly announced. Ultimately Royal would like to play for Barcelona, but for now he just wants to be 'your king…' Let's come together as a community and help Royal realize his dream. You can show your support for him by watching “Sokka Kings” Saturdays on SABC 1 at 18:30. Please sms #5 (Royal's number) to 34363 and help Royal achieve his goal of being the best young soccer player in South Africa. |
