Message of hope from "The Horses Mouth"

Mr Danny Jordaan CEO of FIFA took time out of probably one of the busiest schedule in the country to spend time with The Executive Mayor of Klerksdorp and his management team. He came personally to waiver any fears that "the city of people" might have with regard to being a candidate city for world cup soccer 2010.  A focused meeting was held on August 22 at the Protea Lodge board room and very valuable advice was given to the leadership of Klerksdorp. This message was then taken to the public to a much larger forum. The second leg visit of FIFA was confirmed and Mr Jordaan mentioned that "Klerksdorp were actually in a more fortunate position because we are able to learn from the "big city" visit which took place last month."

Mr Jordaan's intention was to address an audience of 200 people with the same message of hope. His visit was cut short due to pressing national issues relating to world cup 2010. Mr Denis Mumble who is Danny Jordaan's right hand man delivered the message of hope to the Klerksdorp Community at a well attended function which took place at the Jaap Stein recreational centre.

The community interest was evident and the objective of council was achieved by answering many concerned residents who have been miss led by national media reporting. Assumptions that Klerksdorp will not be considered as a candidate city were stamped out. Mr Mumble stressed a number of times that Klerksdorp are in the running and will remain to be in the running until FIFA make the final decision toward the end of this year.

The City have a two pronged strategy which will target other options and this city of people  will have the opportunity to piggyback on obvious spin offs relating to 2010. Tourism and transport plan are vital to ensuring a successful bid. The City Council have plan in place and would like to assure residents that we have our eye on the ball and that every endeavour possible is being taken to bring 2010 economic opportunities to Klerksdorp.
