NORTH WEST LADIES REACHES SEMI FINALS The girls arrived back from their trip to Ceres, very happy to be back in their own climate and surroundings. The team event started on Sunday morning with the opening ceremony announcing all the seeded players and the winning team and runner up from the previous year, with thanks to all the sponsors. By Tuesday, North West was lying 3rd with still some playing to be done? The Wednesday they only had one team to play and then the big wait began to hear if North West made it to the Semi Finals, because there were two other teams competing for the spot, Eastern Province and South West District. Finally the announcement came through at about 1:30 pm …. 1st was Northern Gauteng, 2nd was Western Cape Region, 3rd was North West Province and 4th was S.W.D. North West went up against Northern Gauteng, intense games were played, but at the end it was Northern Gauteng that won it by a point 14 13. Northern Gauteng was the winners, with Western Cape Region 2nd, followed by North West and then SWD. Well done to the girls, and thanks to the Manager Annetjie Blignaught, the refs Johan Beukes & Pierre Greyling and also to our supporters and reserves. From here on it's not all smooth sailing into next year, there is still league matches and tournaments to be played. Last but not least the singles competitions started the Thursday, with a couple of North West ladies making it to the last 64 which is a fantastic achievement. However there is one lady that really stood out above the rest Leonie Halder she played a brilliant game putting herself through to the last match where she lost 5-3. Klaas Albert, a former Boland and South African Touch Rugby Player, is set to play in the New Touch Rugby League starting in Klerksdorp the week of 12 September. This will be a Big Plus for the North West Touch Association and is certain to take Touch Rugby in The North West Province to another level. He is sure to make a turn every season at all the Leagues in North West.
