CANCER AWARENESS WEEK

Eskom and the Cancer association of Klerksdorp held a Cancer Awareness Day on 1 August 2006 to share information with employees about healthy life style choices to prevent cancer. With a lifetime risk of 1 out of 4 South Africans being diagnosed with cancer, this topic must be dealt with seriously. Eskom's Health and Wellness team aims to educate employees in order to reduce the risk of cancer.

Acccording to the Cancer Association statistics is increasing in South Africa, but cancer can be prevented by 80% if people change the way they life. This includes what they eat, the work they do, the way they relax and whether you smoke or not.

Frances Minni (Health Programme Co-ordinator of CANCA) emphasis that there are only right or wrong choices in life. We must ensure that we make the right choice according to our needs.

CANCA is a non governmental organisation born out of the community for the community 75 years ago. It remains a volunteer driven organisation that relies on corporate donors and individuals to fund its services.
