R7,9 MILLION - SECONDARY SCHOOL HANDOVER North West Public Works MEC, Howard Yawa says that the delivery of the R7,9 million Imfundo Secondary School in Kokosi Township, Fochville last Friday is a celebration of the Age of Hope and the People's Contract for the people of Merafong. “It's a celebration of partnership between government and communities for the confidence they have in the ANC government to eradicate the apartheid legacy of inequalities, inherited infrastructure backlogs and imbalances in infrastructure provision”. Yawa also condemned the theft of electricity cables experienced at the school last year and called for united action against criminal elements in Merafong. He appealed to the community to ensure that the school was protected at all times and that it becomes the centre of community life. Yawa urged learners at the school to resist the temptation to do drugs as youth are targeted by drug dealers for addiction and destruction. He appealed to them to abstain from drugs and to be young men and women of high moral stamina, integrity, courage and vision. The completion of the eighteen class roomed school has reduced classroom shortage and overcrowding previously experienced by Thuto Kitso Secondary School, which was the only secondary school serving the Kokosi community. The school building project has given access to a modern, quality public school to six hundred learners and twenty-one educators. The new facility includes an administration block, a science laboratory and twenty-four toilets. The vibrant and colourful event was graced by among others Members of Parliament, Members of School Governing Bodies, senior government officials and Councilors of the Merafong Local Municipality. The Executive Mayor of Merafong Local Municipality, Councillor Desmond Van Rooyen opened the school on behalf of the MEC for Education, Rev. OJ Tselapedi. Disney Pandemonium for KPS' 18th Annual Derby Day On 8 September KPS hosted their 18th Derby Day and it was enjoyed by pupils of all grades. The derby track was filled with Disney characters like Chicken Little's, lots of Minnie and Mickey Mice; not forgetting their faithful friend Donald Duck, there were even some fearful Grim Reapers and Red Indians amongst the pupils and teachers, who had gone to extra lengths to make the day a great success. The biggest surprise of the day was when a big white “Van” arrived and an ever so graceful “Cruella De Ville” let a few dozen “Dalmatians” out of the back door of the “Van” so that they could participate in some Derby action. Kay-Anne De Klerk a pupil of Wesvalia attended the Wesvalia Matric Farewell on 8 September which was held at the Klerksdorp Auditorium. She was accompanied by Tiaan Oosthuizen.
