Science and Technology is not a monster The Matlosana Summer Camp for Young Scientists 2006 was recently held. The aim of the camp was to sustain, contemplate innovative ways, inculcate and stimulate the interest and love for Science, Engineering and Technology amongst the youth in a friendly and fun way. The camp was held over a five day period where the youth was exposed to the world of science, engineering and technology in a fun filled way. Workshops, practical activities and constructions sessions were on offer. The speaker of the City of Matlosana, Rosy Thabanchu said during her keynote address that the youngsters must be more goal orientated and must stop saying that they are previously disadvantage and realize that they are actually advantage. This year is the 30th Anniversary of Youth Day where hundreds died so that we can have the opportunities that the youth have today. Everyone has a talent but if you don't look for it you won't find it, if you don't have a goal you don't have anything to work for. Thabanchu also said that council and the business sector are working together to create recreational facilities but these facilities are not utilize by the youth. Marilyn Ramos, departed on 26 September for the Czech Republic. She will compete internationally for the title of Miss Europe Junior, as the South African representative. SA Fusion is confident that Marilyn will be a strong contestant. City Council of Matlosana intends extending amnesty The City Council of Matlosana intends extending amnesty to all debtors having more than one account with the municipality until 31 October. It is becoming custom that owners of multiple properties do not pay the basic charges and assessment rates of the properties where they are not staying. As result, outstanding debt is escalating on a monthly base. Owners are expected to make arrange-ments on all outstanding accounts and start paying with immediate effect. Failing which, the following steps would be taken:- Legal steps; - Consolidation of separate accounts and crediting any account of the debtor, and - covering outstanding property rates from tenants and/or agents. - Residents are once more invited to liaise with Treasury should they be experiencing problems with their accounts and meter |
